DAR Membership

Are you eligible to join the DAR?

Any woman 18 years old or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor, male or female, who aided the cause of American independence during the American Revolutionary War through military, civil or patriotic service is eligible to join the DAR. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage, and death, as well as of the American Revolutionary War service of her Patriot ancestor.

Become a member!

Our chapter can provide guidance and assistance with the application process. Admission to membership in the National Society is through a chapter or as a Member-At-Large. Becoming a member includes: tracing your family lineage; identifying your Patriot ancestor; locating a DAR chapter near you; and completing the application process, which our registrar can help you with.

Is one of your ancestors a Patriot? Check here:

For those outside Spain

Thank you. Two very short words. Just two syllables. And yet… These two short words hold a world of meaning when we say to you, Thank you for joining our Chapter. Thank you… For taking the time to find us (electronically), discovering what we do, making the decision to join our Chapter, filling in the form with your details, enclosing a check, finding the right stamp, putting it on the envelope, and making your way to a mailbox. It all sounds so simple, and yet each step required a conscious decision to act, followed by the action itself.

And here we are now saying, Thank you… For enabling us to make our annual donation to the British Cemetery of Madrid, where many Americans are buried, for maintenance. Thank you… For providing us with the funds to present a monetary award to the Outstanding Senior from the Spanish Class at Kate Duncan Smith DAR School. Thank you… For continuing to be interested in our members, our activities… our lives.

We have felt hopeful and engaged every time we have had occasion to “chat” with one of you on myriad subjects. It has helped us to feel greatly connected, especially over this past year when we were sometimes confined to our homes, except for the most essential outings, and even up till now, when travel is still not really an option unless truly justified.

Please know that we are always available to “chat”, answer any questions, wax lyrical about the beauties of Spain (should you be planning a visit, in the future), share interesting Spanish recipes with you, discuss ancestors and family history, and just generally “be there” for you, as we know you are. We are very much looking forward to being able to meet with some of you the next time we “go Stateside”. We think, in fact, we know that DARs are special, we know that we are special, and that we includes you!

You can still be part of our group. Did you know that members from other DAR chapters can join the España Chapter, NSDAR, as an associate? Additional information is provided on the application form.
